Organisational Design

Organisation design is the review of what an organisation wants and needs, an analysis of the gap between its current state and where it wants to be in future, and the design of organisational practices that will bridge that gap. It is a fundamental, wide reaching, future-focused activity that often requires a review of the entire organisation and its context to decide what does and doesn’t work. Linenhall Consulting has extensive experience of conducting extensive, and holistic, reviews of everything from systems, structures, people practices, rewards, performance measures, policies, processes, culture and the wider environment. We fully understand that although organisation design is a technical field with specialist knowledge, skills, and behaviours, people professionals more broadly have an important role to play. Within our organisational design reviews, we ensure that your people will be gate keepers of your organisation’s people data, sit across the organisation with a system-wide view, and have an effective knowledge and understanding of your organisation’s ‘undiscussable’ issues and performance challenges.

Organisational Development

A systematic approach to drive business performance. It considers elements like organisational culture, capability, values, and relationships, taking an ecosystems approach to understanding them and how they influence behavior and performance. CIPD define it as “a planned and systematic approach to enabling sustained organisational performance through the involvement of its people”. Because the way that organisations operate in a constantly changing environment; externally (where markets change, new competitors emerge, and technology evolves) and internally (where people come and go, cultures evolve, and leadership agendas change) organisations often find that the practices they have used historically that used to perform well, no longer work as well as they did - they need adjusting to maximise their impact on the organisation achieving its goals. Linenhall Consulting Partners are trained OD Practitioners, who are vastly experienced in delivering OD outcomes that improve organisational performance, realise individual performance management (IPM), increase people engagement & empowerment, enhance systems development, and improve an organisation’s ability to produce effective management information to aid their decision-making process.

Our Partners

Jean Oakes (jeanlinenhall@outlook.com) 

Jean brings over 30 years’ experience of leading organisation design, change management, job evaluation and pay reward. Jean has worked within the public and private sectors and plays a key role in driving the business. She is dedicated and enthusiastic and has a wealth of experience working with staff and dealing with Chief Executives and senior management and has also had the opportunity to deal with trade unions on job evaluation and change issues. Throughout her career, Jean has had the opportunity to work for local authorities and has provided a range of consultancy services across Northern Ireland. Jean has experience of working within an HR environment and dealing with a wide range of Diversity & Inclusion issues. When working in Belfast City Council she was a leader in supporting women and establishing a range of diverse teams namely Women’s, Disability and LGB&T networks. Jean is a firm believer in supporting change and innovation, identifying solutions, and dealing with people to support the implementation. Jean has a post graduate degree in management practice and is CIPD qualified.

Les McCloy (leslinenhall@outlook.com)

Les has over 20 years’ experience in leading and undertaking business improvement reviews and job evaluation exercises within a diverse range of organisations across Northern Ireland. This has included client organisations such as the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, Housing Associations, local authorities and Stranmillis College, to name a few. Les has also worked in the private sector for over twenty years, including a consultancy role with PricewaterhouseCoopers for ten years and roles in Industrial Engineering, Work Study, production and quality management within the clothing and textile industries. Les has vast experience in change management, business improvement, pay and grading, job evaluation and the implementation of bonus schemes and working arrangements within both private and public sectors. Les has experience in working and negotiating with Trade Unions throughout his career and is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel Development (MCIPD) and holds a Level 7 Diploma in HR Development.

Norman has twenty years’ experience radically improving existing businesses and services through careful planning, strategy and management gained via exemplary service as a senior manager in the Health Service and business improvement posts in local government. He has project led services and organisations to successfully attain IIP Champion status, EFQM Quality Award, EFQM Mark of Excellence, BS8555, BS76000 and Charter Mark awards. He has developed and implemented corporate Health and Wellbeing Strategies in local authorities and programme managed the implementation and build of corporate-wide HR/Payroll and Time and Attendance systems. Norman has authored several articles for business magazines, is a visiting lecturer at University of Ulster, a qualified Senior EFQM Quality Awards Assessor, and a qualified BS76000 Assessor. Norman has an MSSc in Organisation and Management from QUB and a Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management awarded from the CIPD.
